Abstract

The program is about the city of Toledo, located near the Spanish capital Madrid. It played a cultural and artistic role when Andalusia was the capital of the Omeyade caliphate. This role diminished when Cordoba became the Capital of the Arab Islamic state, during the reign of Abdul Rahman Eddakhil. The program introduces the carving and the architecture in Toledo and Cordoba. The Spanish invaded the city of Toledo in 1085, as the Arab state became weak. The city became the Spanish Army headquarters . Then we will discover the art of Toledo, considered as a combination of the Arab arts. The architecture and its carvings are not very different from what the Omeyade built in Persian areas as far as arches, towers, ornaments and utensils are concerned. The Arab style dominated all these arts, and has influenced the Spanish artists .
