Abstract

The episode is about desert castles built in the Ummayad era, such as the Amra castle( Qasr) built for princes to relax while hunting. Whereas Qasr Kharana , built in the same period, has served for defensive and military purposes with many control towers as well as stables and arcs. It was built in the years 711 (92 Hegire). One part of the front wall of Qsar Mshatta was transferred to a museum in Berlin during the Second World War.The Ummayad desert castles show an impressive example of architecture, their vestiges still exist today.

- The construction of the castles in Jordan desert dates back to the Umayyads of the 8th century.

- They were intended for hunting, fishing and riding competitions.

- The Amra Palace was built in the era of the Umayyad Caliph Al-Walid. All interior walls are covered with beautiful coloured drawings.

- Dalton said in his "History of Art" that he had never seen such complete and preserved ornaments than those of Amra Palace, a non-religious construction.

- Music

- Kharrana Palace is the only desert palace built for defensive purposes.

- It is a square-shaped fort, imposing, with at each corner a round tower and half towers between each.

- There are small windows above loopholes. The front door leads to a long passage through large rooms. Their entries were vaulted and served as barns.

- Immediately after, a blue courtyard with stairs leads to the upper floor.

- The construction of Kharrana palace dates back to the year 92 AH, about the year 711 of the Julian calendar.

- At about the same time, that of Umayyads, the Qasr Mshatta palace was constructed, with a facade originally covered with fine ornaments.

- But German Chancellor ordered to remove the marble on the facade

- and to bring it to Pergamon Museum in East Berlin in 1903, following its alliance with the Sultan Abd Al-Hamid.

- Some pieces of facades are still present, they give an idea of the ornaments’ beauty.
