Abstract

Not far from Wadi Kharar is a bath. It is considered as a holy place because Jesus (Peace be upon him) was baptized there in the Jordan River from which water reaches a pond, where a monastery and a church were built to identify the place. Inside the church is a map dating back to the Byzantine period, there is also a study to prevent the waste of water which is gathered in pools through canals built of this purpose. The churches are full of mosaics and Greek inscriptions on the floor, which show the history of the place and its greatness. Palm trees are abundant and contribute to show its beauty. Christians come to perform their pilgrimage, after the visit of his Holiness Pope John Paul II.
