Abstract

A fortress was built in central Jordan, on Makawar mountain, not far from Madaba, overlooking the Dead Sea and the walls of El Qods. During the Roman empire, it was destroyed and rebuilt with baths and columns. The marriage of the Emperor Herodus the Great with the Nabateyeh Princess created an affinity between the two neighbor empires. But later, they divorced and Herodus married his cousin Herodias, with whom he had a child; Sadomi, a charming dancer. That night, John the Baptist who killed the Prophet Yahya ibn Zakariyya, was killed by Herodias. His head was put on a silver plate, as requested by Sadomi, who danced to celebrate the event. Many other events happened in this area; some are pleasant and others dramatic.
