This episode introduces the city of Oum el Djamal, in El Mafraq. It was a home for many civilizations but its first inhabitants were the Nabataeans, in the first century. It linked Petra in Jordan to Basra in Mesopotamia, and was a commercial and military base. The Nabataeans left monuments with inscriptions in their language. In 106, the Nabataean civilization collapsed and the Roman era started. The Romans modified the constructions; they raised the fortress to serve as barracks and military headquarters. The episode stops at every detail of the architecture. It also introduces " Birkat el Hadj", a large pool used to collect water in the desert.Type
