Abstract

Discovery of the fluvial park of Tiber in Umbria. The Tiber flows donw the valley and feeds two hydroelectric basins forme recently thanks to the construction of a dam : the lake of Cordoba and that of Alviano. Both basins are the habitat of aquatic animals and a meeting place for migratory birds. On the walls of the mountains, alongside the river, we can notice deep caves : inside them, we can note traces of human presence, dating back to many centuries. In one of the caves, a skeleton of a six thousand years old young woman was discovered. Todi was strongly influenced by the Etruscans and its underground contains an important water piping network, now abandoned. The village of Civitella del Lago used to have an important hydraulic system, through wells and undergroung canals. It directed stormwater to a large tank, under the village. The hydaulic system dates back to the Roman period, it was dicovered in 1262, when workers were paving the village square, they fond the tank. The system was restarted and continued to function without interruption until the beginning of the twentieth century, when the municipal aquaduc was built.
