Abstract

Evocation of the history of the small city of Sutri, located about fifty kilometers north of Rome, on the via Cassia. Sutri has a rich medieval heritage, it witnessed important meetings between the papacy and other delegations. The monuments, churches and palaces illustrate this past greatness. The origin of the city dates back to the Etruscan period and its name derives from the God Sutrinas ( Saturn). The archaeological museum and park are testimonies of this richness: we can admire etruscan tombs dug into the tuff and a great Roman theatre.
