Abstract

“Stella de Sud” invites us to the discovery of ancient Athens, through the visit of the Acropolis, the Parthenon and the Agora. We learn about the original construction of the Parthenon and its religious meaning as a symbol of power and a bridge between gods and men. A few sequences from the movie “The secrets of Parthenon” illustrate the commentary and provide an overview of how the Parthenon looked like in ancient times. The artistic heritage is also shown by views of Cape Sounion and its sea, and paintings outside the temples of Athena and Theseus (Héphaïstéion). A comment evokes the myth of Zeus and Athena. The documentary also explains how archeological items found during the works of the subway, which are part of the 2004 Athens urban planning, have been placed and exposed in the corridors of the subway. Luciano Canfora, a philology professor, is interviewed about the Parthenon natural defenses and its construction.
