Abstract

The documentary investigates the theme of the restoration of art items in Italy. The country has been affected by dramatic events that caused significant damages to the cultural heritage. The floods in Florence (04 11 1966) and the bomb attack (27 05 1993) caused important damages to the Uffizi Gallery. More recently, the city of Aquila was partially destroyed by a violent earthquake on 6 April 2009. This video sheds light on the restoration of different art items in Aquila, Rome and Pompéi. In Aquila, we discover the destructions inside the Basilica di Santa Maria di Collemaggio and different art items about to be restored. In Pompéi, we pay attention to the restoration of the frescoes. In Rome, we visit the Palazzo Corsini and its valuable and rich 18th fine art collection as well as the library, which allowed in the 18th century the reading of books that hab been prohibited by the Papacy.
