Abstract

“El Karaouine” was the first mosque built in Marroco. It was and still is a source of the Islamic civilization. It has been restored recently, and thanks to those restorations some archaeological ruins, dating back to the Murabitun and Zenati’s era, have been disovered. The restoration operations were based on traditional methods and materials in order to preserve the architectural character of the mosque.
