Abstract

In the framework of preserving the Moroccan cultural and scientific heritage, the water clock was repaired and restarted in El Karaouine mosque, in the city of Fes. This clock is a masterpiece that dates back to 1317, during the reign of the Merinid Sultan Abu Said Othmane. It witnesses the Muslim scholars' skills in sciences and time control, including prayers time. This archaeological masterpiece has been placed in the northeast corner of the Karaouine mosque minaret, from where the muezzin announces the time for prayer. It is the reference time for all the mosques in Fes.
