Abstract

This episode explains how the picture of Europe has crystallized in the eyes of Moroccans, according to their ambassadors' reports. The episode shows the part of reality and that of mere imagination in their descriptions. However, the travelers' writings are characterized by accurate descriptions of what they saw in European countries : museums, huge buildings, traditions and modern inventions. The Moroccan traveler, Essafar, described the railway and the train which he called "the land ship".
