The program "cities without slums" was launched in July 2004, with the participation of the E.U. The latter wishes to provide 278 000 families with an adequate housing through a grant of nearly a billion dirhams, according to the declaration of Mr Bruno de Thomas, the Ambassador Head of mission of the European Commission in Rabat. Slums were spread in 83 Moroccan cities, and to eliminate them was a big challenge. Thanks to the European partnership, the program has been able to eradicate a big number of inadequate houses. The financial aid granted by the European Union intended to contribute in the eradication of slums, the prevention from the spread of this phenomenon and the provision of socio-economic equipment.Type
