The library of El Karaouine is the library of El Karaouine mosque in Fez. It dates back to the mid-eighth century (Hegire). It was a small library created to help the mosque in its education task. The Merinid Sultan, Abou Hanane, was the first who officially took care of it in 1349, and provided it with a great number of interesting and rare books. Successive Sultans added many books and enriched it with unique and precious manuscripts and documents, some of which dating back to the third century (Hegire). The Karaouine library in Fez is a fertile heritage of knowledge and a unique destination for Arab and foreign researchers who come there to take advantage of its knowledge.Type
