Abstract

As soon as you enter the Oudayas fortress through the gate called "El Bab el Kebir", you notice its Andalusian style. The Moors who fled from Andalusia and settled in the fortress transferred the Andalusian architecture in all its details : white and blue walls, paved alleys, thick decorated doors, wrought iron and gardens with beautiful flowers and rare trees. The Moors, who had a feeling of cultural superiority, and who refused to be under any reign, founded the Republic of Rabat / Sala, in 1614, which lasted 50 years. They settled in the Kasbah of the Oudayas and organized a "jihad movement" against the Christians' ships in the Atlantic Ocean. They were known as the pirates of Sala and Rabat.
