Abstract

Fires and excessive grasing caused the loss of large areas of forests in Morocco. The E.U supported the Morroccan reforestation efforts, mainly in the province of Chefchaouen, in the north. Mr Mohamed Kamel, Head of the forest seeds station in Chefchaouen, explains the programme which consists in collecting forest trees species that can be grown in high areas (north and north-east). This operation was a success since many forest areas that were doomed to extinction have been saved.
