Abstract

Immigration to Europe started officially in the sixties, because of the great demand for manpower by western countries that witnessed a big economic growth after World War II. These countries signed many agreements with Morocco for their supply with manpower. As the jobs were rather manual, neither the knowledge of the language nor special qualifications were required. Many Moroccans from all regions immigrated after they had registered in the Coordination Office in Ain Borja, in Casablanca. In this centre, candidates to immigration were examined and sent to work in various economic fields. The Moroccans worked mainly in agriculture, car industry and the mining sector .
