Abstract

The documentary is a historical overview of the archeological monuments from Andalusian origins, in Tunisia. Their arrival dates back to the 16th century, when they fled from their mother country to take refuge on the Tunisian shore and in particular in the town of Bizerte, famous for its harbor and its sea traffic. The other areas that hosted those runaways are: Matline, Manzel jmil, El-Alia, Ghar el-melh, Ras jbel and other areas in both the Wilyas of Beja and Testour. The runaways kept their folklore, such as Maluf music, architecture and sweet Andalusian food. They also kept the keys to their houses in Granada, hoping to return, after the Crusades.

Additional information

Abou Zakaria the First (1228-1249) wished to take advantage from the Andalusian elite to sustain the pillars of his State and to release the pressure that was imposed on the sheiks of the Mouahidite dynasty. He then hosted a great many of them in his palace and in his army, and he assigned the most prestigious administrative posts to them. As a matter of fact, Abu abd Allah Mohammed Ben Abi Al-Hussein the Andalusian was in charge of the matters of State, and Ibn Al-abar, from Valencia, was his secretary. The extended number of Andalusians and their power in the administration and in the army got the Mouahidites sheiks angry. According to Ibn Khaldoun: Abou Zakaria turned Andalusian runaways into powerful men and experts who took the place of the Mouahidites in the State.
