A guide and people - Part 1
Collection titleTunisia Television Group
First broadcast date03/25/1999
AbstractThis documentary is a testimony of how the Tunisian people suffered because of poverty and illiteracy during the Beys’ reign. This situation was convenient for French settlers who took advantage of the situation to establish a system of protectorate, to exploit the riches of the country. The Tunisian people rapidly understood the real intentions of this system and as a consequence, they had to choose to fight. Protesting movements surfaced and the war against the occupation forces was declared. It is at this time the the Leader Bourguiba was back in Tunisia to guide this fight with the creation of the Destour Party for liberation. French occupation forces that had to face this fight, made the decision to send Lahbib Bourguiba in the desert in the south of Tunisia, where he spent years into inner exile. Freed, the Leader resumed fighting along with Zaim Farhate Hachad, but he is caught back in the end and sent into exile, for the second time, to Malta, after the events of the 8th and 9th of April, 1938.
