Abstract

The video presents the broadcast of the symbolic ceremony of the laying of the first stone for the reconstruction of the Liceu Opera House in Barcelona. The ceremony begins with the first performance of “Càntic a un symbol perdurable” (Song to a lasting symbol) by composer Antoni Ros Marba, performed by the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the "Gran Teatre del Liceu". This is followed by the laying of the first stone at the center of the original building and speeches by Manuel Royes, President of the Barcelona County Council; Pasqual Maragall, Mayor of Barcelona; Carmen Alborch, Catalan Minister of Culture; and Jordi Pujol, President of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan government). The ceremony ends with bulldozers moving into action, as a symbol of the start of the reconstruction.
