Abstract

It's a serie of documentaries on the folklore of Catalan towns, focusing on the origin and tradition of popular festivals and dances. This report is on the origins and survival of the myth of St. George in Western European countries, starting with the deeply-rooted popular tradition that exists in Catalonia. Indeed, the figure of St. George appears not only in the art ( paintings, sculptures...) but also on the football supporters' banners ( the cross), on the buildings (Generalitat of Catalonia), in the litterature, at school, on clothes, and in a lot of countries, we can observe this revival of St. George in daily activities.
