- Our globalising world of today is wrecked by violence, by poverty and by suffering, One third of the world population lives beneath the poverty line, We have to do something to stop this.

- The way forward, I believe, lies in adressing the root causes, we must ask ourselves why is there violence in a particular country or a region, and then we must resolve those problems.

- If we adress poverty, if we improve education, if we improve healthcare, if we succeed in bringing down military activity, we will be serving the cause of peace.

- We owe it to the young people of this world to make sure that we begin processus which can bring down the levels of violence which can improve the quality of life of billions of people,

- so that the young people can have a better world and move forward, We also need to adress the environmental issues which are the subject of so many debates today.

- To do this we need civil society to become involved, we can't just leave it to politicians, Some way or another civil organisations in all countries must ask themselves what can I do to make a difference.

- We are gather here today as Nobel laureates in an effort to be helpful to those regards, but we don't have any decision making powers anymore.

- What we will want to do and what we need civil society to support is to convince those with decision making powers, to take the right decisions which can lay the foundations for a better world.
