Abstract

Black Africa runs in the veins of Morocco. The Gnawa who came as slaves since the 15th century with the gold of the Western Sudan, formed brotherhoods that still practise the possession and exorcism rituals taken from the pre-islamic world as well as from the African deities' rituals. These religious and therapeutic ceremonies, accompanied by the bass of the great lute “Hajhouj”, the crackling of the metal cymbals and the beating of the drum, call the “Mlouk”; the benevolent genius to come upon the dancer at the top of his trance.
