The first television broadcast in Algeria took place on 24 December 1956.
Algeria today has five nationwide public channels with generalist programming. EPTV carries out its tasks of informing, educating and entertaining, in accordance with legal requirements, and as defined by its specification and mission statement.
The archives are the memory of a nation, and are thus a major heritage whose conservation is an absolute necessity. Putting the archives to good use means making people aware of their history.
Accordingly, Algerian television’s audiovisual archives are an irreplaceable source and a rich asset, which must be used intelligently.
Through its Archives Department, Algerian television has participated in some 400 programmes as part of the Med-Mem project. Our selection is intended to represent an audiovisual heritage stretching back more than 50 years, covering all types of productions and all periods.
