BIBLIOTHECA ALEXANDRINA COLLECTION
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA – Library of Alexandria) has been an associate partner of the Med-Mem “Memories of the Mediterranean” project since its launch in 2009. The BA possesses remarkably rich, rare and precious audiovisual archives, with a great variety of content: conferences, seminars, concerts and theatrical productions, and prestigious exhibitions (Sadat Museum, Museum of Rare Manuscripts and Collections, permanent exhibitions such as the World of Shadi Abdel Salam and temporary exhibitions).
The BA also conserves the exceptional donation of the “Association du souvenir de Ferdinand de Lesseps et du Canal de Suez”, containing archives of footage retracing the history and inauguration of the canal and its ports. The Med-Mem website meets one of the Association’s key aims: to enable everyone to find out more about this extraordinary late 19th century adventure.
The BA will be a privileged point of access for the Med-Mem site, promoting the dissemination and use of the 4000 videos of countries in the Mediterranean area which are members of the project. It is thus fulfilling its mission as a centre of excellence for the dissemination of knowledge, and a focal point for dialogue and exchanges between peoples and cultures.
