- 20th century saw fine arts blooming in Egypt,

- after long recession times. Great Egyptian artists appeared,

- among them Mahmoud Said.

- Mahmoud Said was born in Alexandria in 1897,

- he graduated from the French Law School in 1919;

- but his taste for art pushed him towards artists’ studios in Alexandria and academies of art abroad,

- and he finally resigned from his functions in the magistracy and dedicated himself to art in 1947.

- Mahmoud Said was the first Egyptian modern artist who asserted Egyptian identity in art,

- he was the most famous, the most lucky and the most successful one. People liked him for who he was,

- with different painting styles that amateurs of art in Egypt and outside Egypt did not hesitate buying,

- the price of his works reaching very high estimations never dreamt of by any Egyptian artist.

- Mahmoud Said’s work underwent several steps,

- the 10 first years witnessed the best of his work,

- his most beautiful painting being “The Goldilocks Girl”,

- with expressiveness and light shining from the girl’s face.

- The 1930s brought unforgettable wonders, such as “The Invitation to Dinner”,

- “The Magical Hunt”, “The Prayer” and “The Invocation”.

- While during the 1940s, Mahmoud Said’s art focused on portraits. In his portraits,

- he focuses on the psychological depth of the character and on the precision of lines.

- Mahmoud Said is one of the pioneers of modern painting in Arab countries;

- he opened new horizons thanks to his painting brush. In his paintings, he did not neglect any element,

- nor did he prefer one element to another as arrangement and balance are the most important element in his work.
