Abstract

The video shows the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the founding of Reda band for popular arts, held in the arts centre in the library of Alexandria. The beginning of popular arts movements in Egypt Started with the creation of this band. This episode is about a dance called : why is the sea laughing? Reda band was created in the late fifties under the leadership of Mahmoud Reda with the collabation of: the first dancer, choreographer and music composer Ali Reda, the first female dancer Farida Fahmi, after the sudden death of the artist Naima Akef. The band's first show was in Al Azbakia theatre, in August , 1959. The band included 13 dancers ( men), 13 dancers ( women ) and 13 musicians.
