Abstract

"Thinking the Mediterranean" is being organized by Alex Med since 2006, in an aim to enhance the dialogue on the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean region as a center of cultural exchange and co-existence. Professor David Abulafa talks in this session of human history in a sea, which is quite different than telling the story of a nation or of a territory. Firstly, the Mediterranean has always seen transient population. Furthermore, the different cultures and civilizations spread and exchanged by the merchants. In addition, the exchange of labor has played a role in the initial exchange of different cultures. Similarly, Professor Abulafa speaks of the Mediterranean as a meeting point between Europe, Asia and Africa. He refers to the role played by emigration, enhancement of communication and evokes the role played by the various conflicts in the history of the Mediterranean in the year 1200.
