Abstract

A historical review of Cyprus way of Accession to the European Union. The milestones in the accession procedure are pointed out beginning with the Association Agreement in 1973, to the Customs Union Protocol in 1987 and the positive Opinion of the Commission on Cyprus's application in 1993. This is followed by the initiation of accession negotiations in March 1998 up to their completion in December 2002.
