Abstract

The documentary starts by striking news images of disasters that have occurred in different countries, members of the PPRD South Programme in recent years. These images clearly show the extent of the damage from these disasters on human beings, natural resources and the environment, property and infrastructure, and highlight the limitations of relief once the disaster has done its work of destruction and desolation.   Hence the need to address the phenomenon of natural or man-made disasters in terms of prevention and preparation for response in order to limit the devastating effects. The civil protection services of the Euro-Mediterranean region have realized the importance of this aspect of their missions and took, the last ten years, initiatives (experiences Pilot and Bridge) which led to the creation of PPRD South Consortium, which will be described in its composition, action plan, organization... ... The documentary then shows the active participation of civil protection services of the Southern countries, part of this program and the work they do to improve their response capabilities but also and especially prevention and awareness through work-oriented all levels of society at risk of disasters, including children (special unit civil protection Cadet in Algeria, awareness campaigns through video games in Lebanon, rescue volunteers in Palestine, to compensate for the lack of staff ...). The documentary also discusses the issue of gender equality by showing the growing role of women in the civil protection services of the countries on the southern shore where they are likely to join the ranks of that body corporate long considered the exclusive bastion men. An important aspect of the organization of the PPRD South Programme is addressed, the network of national correspondents who have created a strong momentum in the exchange and flow of information on civil protection in the Mediterranean, to improve capacities for prevention, preparedness and response at the local, regional and international levels. The training component of the program will be promoted through various workshops and training sessions organized for partner countries.
