Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616), novelist, poet and playwright, father of the Spanish literature, was a slave for five years in Algeria, which allowed him to experience the culture, the generosity and simplicity of its people, a truth he expressed in his writings during his detention, as Don Quixote De La Mancha.
