This is where the patron saint of Algiers is buried, Sidi Abderrahmane Thaâlibi, whose real name was Ibn Zeid Ibn Makhlouf Abderrahmane El Thaâlibi, from the Thaâliba tribe. The holy man lies in a carved gilded wooden shrine, over which many silk banners hang down; other small graves are located in this mosque; the floor is carpeted, faïences cover the walls and beautiful chandeliers adorn the ceiling; several of these chandeliers were donated by Queen Victoria as an offering after her wishes were fulfilled; at the foot of the coffin, lies a large wooden padlocked chest, where visitors insert money. The mausoleum of Sidi Abderrahmane was listed National Heritage in 1987.Type
