Abstract

Abu Al-Hassan Ali Ben Nafi, also known as Zyriab, was born in Iraq, in 789. He was one of the key figures of the history of Arabian-Andalusia music in the 19th century. He introduced the “Oud” (Arabic lute) in Andalusia, after adding a fifth string; it is this very lute which then spread to the rest of Europe. Throughout his many stops the journalist Abdelkrim Sekkar makes us discover Arab music and its influences on western music. In this issue, “In Zyriab ’s footsteps” makes a stop in Paris, France.
