Abstract

"Chronicle of the Years of Embers" is a film by Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina. The story starts in 1939 and ends on November 11,1954. Through historical landmarks, the film shows that November 1st was by no means an accident of history but the result of a long process of suffering and political then military fighting which the Algerian people had undertaken. The film is a magnificent epic with a great visual force. It is divided into six sceneries; since the first movements of resistance to the insurrection of 1954. It was granted the Gold Palm at the Cannes Festival in 1975, and was selected to bear the best foreign film oscar, in 1976.
