Abstract

El Ghaffour Mohamed is a brilliant performer of Hawzi. He was born on March 5th, 1930 in Nédroma (Tlemcen). The algerian public discovered him in the period from 1966 to 1970. In addition to Nédroma, Algiers and Constantine became his musical home ports. In 1969, his vocal ensemble got the first prize at the Festival of popular music, in Algiers. Hadj El Ghaffour remains an original case; he has never recorded his music on tapes or records. His modesty is a reference and his Hawzi or Malouf has a distinctive style of Nedroma.
