The Terfés is commonly called the truffle of the Sands or the truffle of the Sahara . It grows in Algeria, in the south, the west, and close to the desert. Thus, we find as much in Ghardaia, El Bayadh, through Ouargla. The term is not really appropriate, however, because the real truffle is a tuber while Terfés is a fungus. But the visual resemblance is so strong that many people confuse them, even if the comparison seems to be limited to the visual.Type
