Abstract

The national park of El Kala is located in the extreme northeast of Algeria. It is bordered in the north by the Mediterranean Sea and in the east by the Tunisian border. It is a home to many lakes and a unique ecosystem in the Mediterranean basin, formed by a mosaic of environments. The park represents a reservoir of a Mediterranean biodiversity, including many rare or endangered species. The park was listed as national heritage and a biosphere reserve by the UNESCO in 1990 .
