King Syphax ruled on the Masaessyle kingdom at the end of the third century BC., while King Gaia, Massinissa's father, ruled on Massyle Kingdom. Syphax was a rich king and certainly powerful, since he mastered almost all northern Algeria. He was the first Numidian king to mint coins. Coins with his effigy represent him the head encircled by a diadem. His capital was Siga, whose ruins can be found still today in the locality of Rachgoun, west of Oran.Type
