- After many conquests in the east, the armies of Alexander moved towards Egypt in 332 BC

- where they found no resistance from the Egyptians and even less from Persians.

- Persian governor preferred to surrender after their king was defeated.

- The Egyptians welcomed Alexander the Great as a hero liberating them from Persian tyranny.

- Alexander the Great wanted to be proclaimed pharaoh in the great temple of Ptah, his crown was shaped like two horns of sheep,

- symbol of Amun-Re. He will be known later in the East under the name of Dhu Alkarnayn, the one who has two horns.

- During his six-month stay in Egypt, Alexander the Great built the city of Alexandria

- and established a thorough system that reveals his great intelligence. He kept the ancient Egyptian system but shared powers between Egyptians and Greeks,

- giving the military and financial powers to Greeks

- and to Egyptians the administrative power. He also kept Memphis as the capital of Egypt.

- Alexander the Great gave the most important powers of the country to several people

- so that no one could take all powers.

- He left Egypt to continue to conquer Persia and realise his dream: to conquer the world.

- He did not live long,

- he died at the age of 33, and yet he managed to build a vast and powerful empire.
