Istrian bovine, known as Boškarin, is a Croatian native breed of cattle. It belongs to a group of large type of Podolski bovine. Oxen reach a weight of 1100 to 1300 kg. Istrian bovine were widespread in the area of the Istrian peninsula. Since 1990, an alliance fosters cooperation between Istrian cattle breeders who work to protect and preserve the remaining number of the Istrian cattle. The Festival of Boškarin is held in the city of Višnjan once a year and breeders are proudly exhibiting their oxes.Type
