Abstract

Though fish breeding is expanding, the resources of the Mediterranean are threatened and becoming scarce. Intensive fishing using highly mechanized boats is to blame.The species do not have time to develop and fry is threatened by the jellyfish that eat them. Up to now, nothing has been done to maintain the natural balance. Greater cooperation between countries should be encouraged. Some quotas or closed seasons for fishing are then required.
