Abstract

It was in 1834 that the first English, attracted by the sun of the French Riviera in winter, came to Cannes. This is the starting point of the luxury winter tourism . Three guides invite us to discover the villas and palaces of the Côte d'Azur since the 1830s. Camille Milliet Mondon, architect and François Fray, curator, retrace the evolution of the architecture and decoration of villas that are now protected sites. With Pierre Gouirand, manager of the Westminster Hotel, we discover this palace. Archival documents illustrate the point: paintings, prints, photographs, posters, postcards, newspapers.
