The exhibition of the Colossus of Ptolemy at the Petit Palais in Paris is the opportunity to return to the subaquatic archaeological discoveries of Jean Yves Empereur's team in Alexandria. On the site of Fort Qaytbay probably stood the legendary lighthouse of the ancient city, destroyed by an earthquake. In 1995, some obelisks and several colossal statues dating from the Ptolemy were immersed. They are presented by Mohamed Mustapha, exhibited near the Roman theater; then, in his office at the Alexandrian Studies Center, Jean Yves Empereur explicits an ’Egyptianized' Hellenistic architecture.Type
