Abstract

Kaleidoscopic reportage about Arles, a city-remnant which offers to the contemporary eyes all strata of its glorious past. The Roman colonization in the aisles of the Alyscamps, the arenas, the Forum. The Romanesque art, admirable in the porch and the cloister of St Trophime. The Provence traditions, inherited from the Mistral movement, are particularly alive there, as evidenced by Louis Julian, a 'félibre' of 92 years and the Queen of the year of Arles. The portrait of the city would not be complete without mentioning Van Gogh' s presence, from February 1888. Arles is also the tradition of the bull of Camargue and the rice economy, provided by Spanish seasonal.
