The Maritime Alps are not spared by the threat of tidal waves. Seismic activity remains high in the Mediterranean and an earthquake on the African continent could cause a tsunami on the European continent. Philippe Charvis, a geophysicist from the Geo-sciences Azur ocean observatory, presents the results of his research on key risk areas. Testimony of Daniel Mansanti, mayor of Theoule or a victim of the 1979 tsunami in Nice. A European program is in progress to try to model the impact of tsunamis on the coast. It also allows to test the impact of waves on buildings with a wave flume. Jean Virieu, a teacher of seismology, said that the monitoring and analysis systems at sea are essential.Type
