Abstract

The report proposes a journey to discover the seaside resort of Tamaris, between Sanary-sur-Mer and Toulon, created by Michel Pasha. In 1855, Michel Pacha had been charged by the Sultan Abdulmecit I to build all the lighthouses of the Ottoman Empire and got some concessions on the ports of the Great Gate, becoming then, one of the richest French of the time. This native of Sanary-sur-Mer has used his fortune to achieve his dream of building a resort on the shores of the Bay of Toulon. In twenty years, he has built ninety-three luxury vacation homes in oriental style , in memory of his years in Istanbul. Today, many of these houses are still there, and the charm of the Bay is unchanged.
