This first part of the program opens with bloody images of Tonnara, traditional tuna fishing, which takes place between Sicily and Sardinia for 3 weeks. Invented by the Phoenicians and codified by the Arabs, this form of fishing is in agreement with the organization of a traditional society, where exploitation of the sea is only seasonal, for villagers who are primarily farmers and ranchers. Due to the scarcity of fish caught, the oceanologist Caetano Cafiero explains that fishing could be prohibited, and that already in Roman times, basins would have been organized to protect the fauna. This issue concludes with the assertion that the Mediterranean economy was not built on the products of the sea.Type
