Abstract

Story of Peter Cohignac on coral fishermen in the Mediterranean. This little known business takes us to Corsica and Torre del Greco, at the foot of Vesuvius, where the sculptors use coral. Jo Harmelin, CNRS researcher, explains that coral is not very sensitive to pollution; Jean-Philippe Giordano, coral -fisher in Corsica, recalls that 38 fishermen are still active in France. Meacci Michel, a professional coral-fisher from Marseille, talks about the working conditions of this profession. At Torre del Greco, a town at the foot of Vesuvius, near Naples, the work of the coral is a traditional craft.
