Abstract

The rural and bedouin life is chracterized by the "Mahabesh", a hand mill made of a hard special wood. The piece of wood is hollowed to introduce the roasted coffee beans which are then crushed and pulverized with a thick stick. Several stories evoke the importance of that device in rural and bedouin life, also used as a drum to create sounds and musical rhythms. The coffee is roasted and prepared in special ustensils. It is present in every home, served on any occasion. The episode also deals with some Jordanians' crafts such as: ceramics, paintings, sculpture on clay and drawing on glass ( filling glass pots with sand).
