Abstract

This episode presents the art of woodcarving on olive tree wood in Palestine. It shows extracts from works in Bethlehem in one of the local craftsmen's shops. One of the craftsmen talks about his career as a woodcarver, about the machines he used to create ornaments and about the stages olive tree wood goes through, before turning into a master piece of art. Jacques Jacquemond, who owns the Museum of Antiquities, called "The Christmas House", talks about Oriental ornaments and about the debut of woodcarving on olive tree wood. He also talks about the impact of colonization and of the separation fence over this industry.
